The Mathematics Department offers a range of courses for a variety of needs and plans of study. We support the professional and technical programs as well as the transfer programs. We offer several PreCollege courses that satisfy requirements for students obtaining certificates and students preparing for college-level mathematics courses. Our college-level courses prepare students for the sciences and engineering curriculum, satisfy prerequisites for admission to colleges of business and education, and create the foundation of undergraduate mathematics curriculum for math majors.

The Associate of Arts (DTA) degree is directly transferable to most Washington baccalaureate institutions (four-year colleges and universities). It is a general transfer degree appropriate for a wide variety of major areas of study. Students who transfer will be granted junior standing upon transfer.

The Associate of Arts Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Natural Sciences and Mathematics requires completion of 64 credits which must include the General Education Core plus 18 ± 24 credits in Science and/or Mathematics courses taken from subjects in the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. This degree provides a solid liberal arts foundation accompanied by strong preparation in Science and Math. Completion of this degree prepares students to continue in multiple science baccalaureate programs as well as programs in health sciences.

By completing the Liberal Arts and Sciences—Emphasis in Science and Mathematics Degree, students will be exposed to a wide range of coursework to achieve a foundational understanding of mathematics and the natural sciences. Students will survey, analyze and interpret concepts, theories, and methodologies as they relate to the natural sciences and mathematics and how this knowledge has shaped the course of human development over the ages. Additionally, students will develop critical thinking skills, mathematical and quantitative reasoning skills, and research methodology. Common university majors with the Science and Mathematics Emphasis include but are not limited to, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemical Physics, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Environmental Studies, Geography (Physical), Geological Sciences, Mathematics, and Physics.

The Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts degree shall be granted for a planned study program consisting of a minimum of 60 semester hours of college transfer courses. Within the degree program, the institution shall include opportunities to achieve competence in reading, writing, oral communication, fundamental mathematical skills, and basic computer use.

The Associate of Arts degree in Geography is designed to complete the lower-division portion of a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree and provide a foundation for a wide variety of careers.

The Associate of Arts (AA) program is a two-year college program that requires college admission. It is the equivalent of the first two years of a Bachelor's degree. It is also referred to as a general education transfer degree.

The associate degree program in physics prepares students to begin upper-division work leading to a baccalaureate degree in physics or engineering physics. It also provides some of the support courses required for the baccalaureate degree.

Geography is the study of Earth phenomena, including analyzing distributional patterns and interrelationships among these phenomena.

This degree provides students with the foundation classes to support ongoing interest in the field of mathematics. The core consists of the calculus sequence required for transfer.

Students choosing the Physical Science concentration receive a strong foundation in chemistry, physics, and mathematics qualifying them to enter the junior year of a science/math program of study at a four-year college or university.

Earth Sciences at MPC introduces Geology and Oceanography in one of the most stunning settings to study either. Monterey Bay and the Monterey Peninsula provide world-class examples of processes that shape our earth and oceans.
