Introduction
The program is designed to provide the graduate with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to engage in the practice of personal training in a variety of settings. The program's goals and objectives are guided by, but not limited to, the criteria and guidelines set forth by the American Council on Exercise.
Admission: Admission to the program can be obtained by achieving the established minimum score on the ACCUPLACER exam. A high school diploma or GED is required for program admission.
Employment Opportunities: Personal trainers work one-on-one or with two or three clients, either in a gym, health club, sports centre, or the client's home. They help clients assess their level of physical fitness and set and reach fitness goals. Trainers also demonstrate various exercises and help clients improve their exercise techniques. They keep records of their clients' exercise sessions to monitor the clients' progress toward fitness.
Credentialing (Optional): Upon completion of the program, graduates may be eligible to sit for a national certified personal trainer exam. Graduation from this program does not guarantee certification. Additional certifications for eligibility to sit for the personal trainer exam include the American Heart Association's Healthcare Provider CPR certification, including live skills check and AED certification.
