Introduction
This course is for anyone with interest in the field of Microbiology. Explore the microscopic world of bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Learn about major infectious diseases, their causative agents, and how to prevent the spread of infection. Open to all - no prior knowledge necessary. Ideal for anyone currently working in, or aiming to work in, the health care professions.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Compare and contrast bacteria, fungi, parasite, and virus;
Describe bacterial cell structure;
Differentiate between gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria;
Classify bacteria based on morphology;
Differentiate between sterilization, pasteurization, and disinfection;
Describe the effect of mutations on bacterial resistance;
State the basic antimicrobial medications;
State the causative agent for common respiratory infections;
State the causative agent for common digestive infections.
