Introduction
ombining hands-on instruction and theory, develop your skills and knowledge in structural steel design, fabrication, welding and metallurgy in preparation for a career as a welding specialist or quality control and inspection officer.
The Welding Engineering Technology program offers two years of hands-on education. The first year focuses on academic fundamentals and structural steel design and fabrication.
During the second year, you will learn pressure vessel design, construction and testing. You will design, build and test a pressure vessel as part of your final project. Practical welding skills are also developed to gain an in-depth understanding of welding processes.
Credentials and Accreditation
After successfully completing this program, graduates will receive a SAIT diploma in Welding Engineering Technology.
This program is nationally accredited by Technology Accreditation Canada. Graduates may apply to the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta for their Certified Engineering Technologist designation after two years of appropriate industrial experience. While at SAIT, students are encouraged to become members of the Canadian Welding Association, American Society for Materials, National Association of Corrosion Engineers, and the Association of Science& Engineering Technology.
