Accounting is one of seven majors available to Business Administration students. This three-year Ontario College Advanced Diploma program starts with three semesters of learning a variety of essential business skills before ultimately deciding on a Major.

In this program, students are introduced to the various functional aspects of business in general, and accounting in particular. Graduates are proficient in computer, communication, and mathematical skills and employ advanced management and financial management techniques to support accounting activities, including the maintenance of accounting records and the preparation and presentation of financial statements.

The Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Finance has been developed as a progression route for students aiming for a Higher Education qualification in the subject area, and/or for students aiming for a career in business and management.

This course is intended for people who are working and/or wishing to work in the professional accounting job roles in financial services and other industries.

After the course, students will have the ability to apply accounting solutions to a range of often complex problems and analyse and evaluate information from various sources. Ability to apply initiative to plan, coordinate and evaluate own work and guidance to others within defined guidelines in financial services and other industries.

This qualification is designed to reflect the role of individuals working in accounting & seeking professional identification. At this level, individuals are expected to apply theoretical and technical skills in a range of situations and to display initiative and judgment in planning activities. They have autonomy in performing complex operations and can be responsible for planning, coordinating and evaluating the work of others within broad but generally well-defined parameters.

To attain full membership to the AAT, this course would be suitable if you are working or intend to work in accounting in the future.

At the Management level, you’ll focus on translating long term decisions into medium-term plans. Once you’ve completed it, you’ll be able to use data and relevant technology to manage organizational and individual performance, allocate resources to implement decisions; monitor and report the implementation of decisions; as well as prepare and interpret financial statements to highlight business performance. Once you’ve finished the Management Level, you’ll be awarded the CIMA Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting (CIMA Adv Dip MA).
