The AA-T in Philosophy prepares students to transfer to a California State University as a philosophy major. It does this in two ways. First, it introduces students to the main questions within the major branches of philosophy, including metaphysics, epistemology, political theory, aesthetics, ethics, and logic. Second, it develops the critical thinking skills necessary for tackling those philosophical questions.

Humanities, Philosophy, and Arts examine human values and experience within a wide range of cultures across the globe and over the course of history. Students will study, interpret, and evaluate classic works in architecture, art, literature, music, philosophy, religion, rhetoric, and the theater, and they will encounter questions to which there are multiple plausible answers. The study of language, philosophy, and rhetoric provides crucial tools for understanding and interpreting human knowledge and experience. Students pursuing the program in the Humanities, Philosophy, and Arts will enhance their skills in critical thinking and both oral and written communication. The Humanities, Philosophy, and Arts program prepares students for further study in the arts, history, humanities, literature, philosophy, communication studies, and/or world languages at a four-year baccalaureate institution and provides an excellent foundation for students interested in administration, communications, law, public service, and teaching.

Begin with an Associate of Arts degree with a Direct Transfer Agreement into a Bachelor program in English or a related field. TCC offers the Associate of Arts (DTA) degree with a Literature Specialization. In this specialization, students choose courses from ancient to postmodern literature and from traditional to avant-garde readings.

Philosophers systematically explore fundamental issues, ideas, and truths to understand better our place in the world and why we do what we do. Among many questions, philosophers consider what it means to live a good life, the ethics of artificial intelligence, and the relationship between the individual and society. Philosophy students develop logic, general problem-solving, communication, and persuasion skills applicable to many careers, including business, STEM, law, teaching, health, and the arts.

Associate in Arts in History for Transfer (AA-T) The Associate in Arts for Transfer in History (AA-T in History) provides students the opportunity to cultivate a broad perspective on history. The program is designed to stimulate appreciation for, and understanding of historical and cultural trends, and knowledge of key figures and events. The program is also designed to facilitate learning in such a way as to allow students to make connections to modern institutions and ideas, patterns of change, and progress, and encourage an interest in the 21st-century world.

The History Program is designed primarily but not limited to those students who wish to pursue a Baccalaureate Degree in History. The program of study will provide students with foundational history courses as well as those courses that meet their general education requirements. Upon successful completion of an Associate in Arts Degree in History, they will be able to transfer into parallel programs.

Coursework in Language Arts emphasizes both the form and content of linguistic communication. Students will learn to examine communicative acts within a wider social context, and to apply the principles of language and rhetoric toward the development of logical thought, precise and effective expression, and critical evaluation.

The Liberal Arts: Arts and Humanities Associate in Arts degree program is designed for students who wish for a broad knowledge of liberal arts and sciences with an area of emphasis in Arts and Humanities. This program is an ideal choice for students planning on transferring to the California State University or the University of California as the student can satisfy their general education requirements, plus focus on transferable course work that relates to majors at CSU or UC.

The Associate in Arts for Transfer degree in Philosophy provides students with the foundational knowledge necessary to make a successful transition into a Baccalaureate Degree at any of the CSU campuses. The Associate Degree for Transfer (AA-T or AS-T) is a special degree offered at California Community Colleges. Students who earn an AA-T or AS-T degree are guaranteed admission to a campus within the California State University (CSU) system in a similar major, although not necessarily to a specific campus. Students who complete an AA-T or AS-T are given priority consideration when applying to a particular program that is similar to the student’s community college major and will be given a special GPA advantage when applying to CSU-impacted campuses or majors. Students who are planning to pursue an AA-T or AS-T are strongly advised to meet with a counselor for additional information about this transfer program.

Trevecca’s two-year Associate of Arts in worship studies provides a foundation in musicianship and worship, helping students become well-versed in music theory, performance, biblical and historical worship, worship leading principles, private applied lessons, music technology, and audio basics.

The many languages offered by this department are designed to help students appreciate the cultural and ethnic diversity found in the city of Glendale and in our country. Language classes are taught using the immersion technique. This technique is designed to help students better understand the language and the culture in which it is based.

This two-year program is, first, for students who desire some study in a biblical framework but plan to pursue a collegiate major not offered at Welch College. It provides a solid basis for biblical study plus a core of general education that should provide a good foundation for transferring to another college.
