Cambridge Islamic College is offering a 3 year comprehensive part-time Diploma programme in Essential Islamic Sciences. The programme consists of 3 levels, each level is 1 year in duration and each year has three modules covered in 3 Terms over 12 weeks.

The importance of ʿilm al-balāgha for anyone serious about understanding, interpreting and contextualising the Qur’an and its early commentaries, ḥadīth and its early commentaries, and classical jurisprudential (fiqhi), theological, philosophical and literary texts is widely recognised. ʿ

This modular* full-time course aims to provide vocational and practical training for students including theological study, placements, preaching and involvement in the prayer and devotions of the college. The course is assessed by a variety of methods including reading reflections, group work, student-led seminars, essays and examinations at levels 4 and 5.

Diploma in Theology, Logic and Philosophy is a unique course dealing with one of the most intellectually demanding subjects in Islamic education. The complexity of these subjects is multiplied by the fact that throughout the Islamic history there have been many different schools of theology at odds with each other. This was given rise by the emergence of different philosophical approaches to knowing God and understanding revelations.

For the first year, teaching takes place alongside students doing the Certificate. After this, the Diploma goes into greater depth than the Certificate, building on foundational areas, and beginning to shift focus to a more contextual approach. This means that we begin with issues and conflicts that arise in the world and the church, then learn how our theology can both help us address those issues - and at the same time, how our theology might grow deeper as we engage with these issues.

The course is designed to provide additional training to the Associate Diploma in Christian Ministry level. The aim is to provide some level of theological reflections and deepen engagement with the major disciplines of theology, ministry, and mission.

Building on the foundations established at Level 4 (CertHE level), the second year of the DipHE has an emphasis on the integration of biblical studies, doctrine, history, and practical ministry.

Students who complete this course successfully will receive a Diploma in Higher Education from Durham University. The agreement between Bristol Baptist College and Durham University is reviewed every five years and began in September 2014.

This three-year part-time course is a thorough grounding in theology, ministry, and mission validated by Durham University as part of the Common Awards scheme.
