This course teaches students how to analyze major choices and negotiate deals in starting a business, involving people, assigning roles, compensating performance and financing. This course utilizes lectures, group work, journal writing, presentations and handouts throughout. Students will write a group business plan and do an individual presentation.

By interpreting the images and messages of contemporary media, communications studies explores why we communicate the way we do and how we create meaning. Communications scholars investigate the central relationship of communication to technology, social change, and the political process. If you are interested in a deeper view of topics such as popular culture, online media, and advertising, then communications is what you’re looking for.

Our ESL program was developed by listening valuable feedbacks to our students whose first language is not English. It was specifically designed for beginner to intermediate-level students, and they can see the fundamental learning outcomes and bring the English language to life through the creation of an interactive learning experience.

A major focus is on the development of a workable film vocabulary as well as critical thinking skills so that students can intelligently discuss and analyze influential works of cinema. Film screenings teach students to watch and listen carefully, while following group discussions help students develop the confidence to share their ideas with others. Film Studies students may find employment in the arts at film institutions and/or festivals in the form of programming, curating, and producing.

French is one of Canada’s official languages. Worldwide over 220 million people speak French on all the five continents. It is one of the most widely taught languages in the world. Students are gradually immersed in French language through in-class activities, songs and other media resources, interactive use and practice of pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar.

French

This course critically examines issues facing women in Canadian society, such as gender inequality and discrimination, gender-based violence, reproductive health and reproductive rights, the construction of motherhood and work, and other aspects of female status in patriarchy. Students will explore the work of prominent feminist scholars, the role of feminist movements in social change, and recent social research on gender, sexuality, and intersectional theories of oppression. In this introductory course, we will also discuss gender-non-conforming identities, masculinity, and men’s issues.

Gender and Women’s Studies

Geography combines natural and social sciences to explore human interaction with the environment and the social, political, economic and cultural forces that shape it. Whether you love the outdoors, are concerned about human impact on the environment, or want to design better future communities, geography is the perfect field for you! All geography courses are university-transferable and may be counted towards a 2-year, 60 credit, multidisciplinary Associate Degree of Arts.
