Introduction
The Native American Studies Program is designed for individuals who seek knowledge and experience of indigenous history, culture, language, literature, art, philosophy, political and social science, and sovereignty. Student learning focuses on Ojibwe culture and the interaction between traditional and contemporary knowledge and activities. Topics that will be examined in this degree program include the historical and contemporary relationship between Native and non-Native people, the unique status of Native American nations with sovereign powers, and the importance of language as a means of cultural expression revitalization.
This degree provides a special emphasis on the Ojibwe of the Great Lakes Region's language, culture, and traditions.
