Introduction
Welcome to Laney’s Ceramics Studio in Oakland, California. Our program offers Day, Evening, and Weekend ceramics classes at all levels of ability in a relaxed, fun, and creative environment. Our low cost as a government-funded program offers an unmatched value in the East Bay Area and we are conveniently located near the Lake Merritt BART station.
Ceramics is the art and science of making objects from inorganic, non-metallic materials by the action of heat. It’s a highly tactile art that engages the mind and body.
In 2006, Laney College completed an all-new, state-of-the-art building devoted to the Arts. The new facility caters to both complete beginners and veteran ceramics enthusiasts.
A major in ceramics provides the necessary technical knowledge, skills, and aesthetic judgment to students transferring to four-year institutions or professional art schools. The major can lead to a career in industrial design or as an individual craftsperson.
