What's the Business and Marketing Foundation Degree (FdA) course about?

The programme provides challenging and comprehensive learning experiences that develop students intellectual, communication and practical skills. This course is ideal for those students who wish to either begin their careers or that are presently employed and wish to progress further in their present role.

All students are expected to undertake paid or unpaid work experience in both years of the course where they investigate a chosen topic and practice skills developed on the course. The course is classroom based (aside from the work experience element) and is delivered full time over two days by subject and industry specialist staff.

The course is assessed through various tasks per module and scheduled across a range of deadline points in the year. Tasks are based on industry scenarios and are practical in many of the modules. Development, self-reflection, awareness and evaluation of own skills are built into tasks to enable students to reflect and develop further. Some assessments also include elements of self and peer group assessments.

Other forms of assessment include a wide variety of forms e.g. seminars; regular weekly tutorials; interaction in class; peer feedback on in-class presentations; workshop activity with feedback; online quizzes; tutor feedback on group and project work; and regular final assessment monitoring with guidance to improve.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

Students completing the foundation degree will have the opportunity to top-up their qualification to the BA (Honours) Degree in Business Administration (with pathways) at Manchester Metropolitan University. Students can apply through UCAS for other top-up degree programmes at other Universities. Alternatively, graduates will be prepared for further study to professional business related qualifications such as CIPD.
