Program Details
Manhattan College offers six levels (Level 001 – 006) of Intensive English Language study to meet your foreign language needs. The levels consist of two beginners, two intermediate, and two advanced for pre-university English language proficiency. Our courses follow the Manhattan College academic calendar.
Our classes are limited in the number of students, usually no more than 12 students per class. Courses are held Monday - Friday for 22 hours per week (Fall and Spring semester) and 30 hours per week (Summer session) and emphasize the following core domains:
- Reading comprehension
- Writing for academic settings
- Listening comprehension and presentation skills
- Speaking for conversation and classroom
Fall and Spring sessions take 14 weeks to complete and Summer session takes 9 weeks, and a certificate of completion is awarded for successful completion of each level. Students who successfully complete the IELP Level 006 will not need to take an additional proficiency exam (e.g. TOEFL or IELTS test) for entrance into Manhattan College degree programs.
