Introduction

This program is the equivalent of the freshman and sophomore years of a Bachelor of Arts program at a four-year college or university. Students gain a broad knowledge of the arts, literature, history, psychology, social sciences, science, and mathematics. Also, students develop writing and speaking competencies, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Students graduating from the Associate in Arts, Liberal Arts Concentration will achieve skills represented through the college-wide learning outcomes.

Students graduating from the A.A. Liberal Arts program will also be prepared for a successful transfer to a baccalaureate institution. Successful graduates of the program will be able to:

Think critically by evaluating arguments, drawing inferences, and analyzing problems from multiple perspectives;

Locate, evaluate, document, and synthesize information using appropriate technologies to conduct discipline-specific research;

Explain, persuade, advocate and argue effectively through written, oral and multimedia communication;

Engage in quantitative reasoning through mathematical problem-solving and applications;

Analyze major political, economic, social, and cultural developments to form a better understanding of our contemporary world;

Demonstrate through analysis and creative expression how literature, philosophy, and the arts reflect and explain human experience;

Engage in scientific reasoning, methodology, and experimentation to foster an understanding of the natural world.
