Introduction
The Level 1 qualifications offer learners the opportunity to gain knowledge and practical skills to carry out basic cooking skills in a kitchen. Learners will practise safely and hygienically in a catering environment. The qualifications will provide a starting point for learners who wish to gain cooking and catering skills, practise skills safely and be aware of hygiene practices when working in a kitchen.
The Level 2 qualifications support learners looking to develop practical kitchen and cookery skills. Through a selection of specifically written or chosen units, learners will learn about food safety and food hygiene, whilst gaining both practical kitchen skills and practical cookery skills making and preparing food through following and/or adapting recipes. These qualifications are suitable for those working or wishing to work in a commercial kitchen or cafe environment and support the development of practical workplace skills. They are also suitable for learners outside of mainstream education, wishing to develop practical life skills at Level 2.
