Introduction

About us

OTOXO Productions is an award-winning documentary production company, founded in 2008 and based in Barcelona. We make films about the human faces and unheard voices behind big social issues, and the pioneering and innovative people that are shaping social change. Through our work, we want to challenge social injustice and support people and groups fighting for a more inclusive, progressive, and hopeful world.

OTOXO’s documentaries have featured regularly across TV and the media both in Spain and internationally, on channels and platforms such as The Guardian, GuideDoc, TV3 and BTV, and BCN Mes. The films have also picked up awards in festivals all over the world, from Beirut to Toronto, Sarajevo to Mumbai, Los Angeles to Loch Ness.

OTOXO Productions also run “The Into Industry Program”, which gives selected participants the opportunity to take their first professional steps in the audio­visuals industry by co-directing documentaries and documentary shorts for television and online media in collaboration with BTV and BCN Mes.

John

Director

John has been making documentaries since 2006, and whilst OTOXO has always been his main focus, he has collaborated with the likes of REC Audiovisuals, Noon Films, and Andrés Bartos Amory. His work has been recognized at film festivals all over the world including the International Festival of Sarajevo, KASHISH Mumbai International Film Festival, Nevada Women’s Film Festival, Portobello Film Festival, Loch Ness Film Festival, and the GREC Festival of Barcelona.

In addition to his success as a director and screenwriter, He is also a lecturer on the subject of documentary making, particularly in his work with emerging filmmakers. As well as being a director of the INto INdustry Program, he has worked with King’s College London and Sheffield Doc / Fest. He is also a regular panellist on News and current affairs show ‘Our Finest Hour’ on El Punt Avui TV.

John is originally from Scotland but has been living in Barcelona since 2007. He has a postgraduate degree in Social research from the University of Aberdeen and he became involved in documentaries through a professional background in Journalism, Social Research and work for the Scottish Commission for Racial Equality.

Tom

Director

Tom has been working in documentaries since 2007. In addition to his work with OTOXO, he has also shot for National Geographic, Padi Productions and TV3. His films have been screened across the globe in festivals such as Ottowa International Shorts Festival, Ourense International Film Festival, Wiper New York Film Festival, The Riga International Tourism Film Festival, Riga, Barcelona International Environmental Film Festival, and Ozark Filmfest.

As well to the recognition he has received for his direction and camerawork, He is also a lecturer on both subjects, principally with a focus on cinematic aesthetics in social documentaries and the development of director/character relationships. He’s a director and co-founder of the INto INdustry Program and has also presented at Sheffield Doc / Fest and Aarhaus University in Denmark.

Tom is originally from England but has been here in Catalunya since 2005. Studied at the University of Nottingham and the ELISAVA, National Escola Superior de Disseny, where he specialized in Art Direction and The Moving Image.
