This degree intends to prepare students for careers and/or higher education in the social sciences, generally, or in the specific disciplines within the overall social science designation. This degree emphasizes the nature of individual and collective human behavior; our interactions; the political-economic, social, and psychological structures and institutions of human beings; and the challenges of developing and sustaining interpersonal and intercultural relationships. This degree will enhance their ability to explain how groups and subgroups operate to make responsible political, moral, and social decisions.

The Foundation Programme is a 2-semesters study program on Social Sciences which allows students with less than 12 years of schooling to fulfil the prerequisites for pursuing a bachelor’s program in Italy and thus in Luiss.  The programme offers introductory courses in economics, law, socio-political studies, and, generally speaking, social sciences and critical thinking.

This Access to Higher Education Social Science pathway can enable you to retrain in social science careers such as psychology, sociology, criminology, criminal justice services, drugs and alcohol counselling or philosophy and ethics. After completing this one-year, full-time course you could progress to university courses in psychology and other social science-related subjects – all depending on your aspirations and the combination of subjects you choose.

These courses emphasize a multidisciplinary approach to the understanding and study of human behavior and social organization. Students study and analyze human societies; the institutions, organizations, and groups that comprise them; and the way individuals and groups relate to one another. Students develop an understanding of the various theories and methodologies of the disciplines, as well as skills in applying their knowledge in critical and useful ways as they navigate their own lives within a constantly changing and complex social world. For the Associate of Social Sciences, students must complete the General Education pattern and elective courses for an additional 42 units. Students must complete 18 units in the area of emphasis courses with a grade of “C” or better, 19 units of general education requirements, and an additional 23 units of elective courses for a total of 60 units. As this degree alone may not be complete preparation for transfer, students wishing to continue at the UC or CSU system should meet with a counselor to develop a transfer plan which addresses all general education and lower-division transfer requirements.

By completing the Liberal Arts and Sciences—Emphasis in Social and Behavioral Sciences Associate in Arts degree, students will be exposed to a wide range of coursework to achieve an understanding of human behavior and human interaction in the social and physical environment. Students will survey, analyze and interpret concepts, theories, and methodologies to cultivate an understanding of human beings and the societies and cultures they create. Common majors within the Social and Behavioral Sciences Emphasis include but are not limited to, Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Economics, Ethnic Studies, Geography (Cultural), Global Studies, History, International Relations, Political Science, Psychology, Social Science, and Sociology.

The Summer Course in Visual Ethnography in Social Sciences provides a basic introduction to visual ethnography for social science and training in collecting, analyzing, and presenting visual research. This course offers a theoretical and practical program in which we explore how the making of documentaries can enrich ethnographic research within a variety of social science disciplines.

Study abroad in Spain! This program offers participants the opportunity to substantially improve their Spanish while studying abroad in “off the beaten path” La Coruña, Spain.

Upon completion of this program, the student will have developed a broad and critical understanding of the complex interconnections between the human and environmental forces in their world.

A Master's Foundation Programme (also known as a master’s preparation programme or pre-master’s pathway) can be taught in 1 to 4 terms, depending on the subject and progression route, though is generally taught in 3 terms (1 year). And offer successful students the opportunity to study for a master's degree at their chosen university. Students will typically study 2-3 modules, as well as English for Academic Purposes. English Language level is one of the most important requirements for university entry and can help fill in any academic gaps.

This unique pre-university course is specially designed for high school students who are planning to pursue an undergraduate degree. By covering subjects including Economics, Politics and Sociology, this course will use the theme of Equality to explore how this topic appears in different disciplines across the Social Sciences. Students will have the chance to explore and stimulate their own interests in a range of topics, and to deepen their understanding of contemporary social issues. Throughout the course, students will also take part in skills sessions which will help improve their approach to academic writing, research and discussion – all key skills for undergraduate study.

After completing the course, the doctoral students shall have the ability to summarize scientific texts that analyze the individual in welfare society from different perspectives; compare the meaning of the concept of welfare society within different political environments.

The Access course is a nationally recognised qualification for adult students (aged over 19). It is designed to provide the skills, knowledge and confidence required to progress onto a degree or diploma in Higher Education (HE).
