This is a highly creative subject that will give you an insight into the diverse application of materials, techniques and processes relevant to the fashion and textiles specialism. You will bring a conceptual approach to the subject through exploring the work of others, taking part in technical workshops, experimenting independently and developing your own ideas around topics of interest to you.

The Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design (Fashion) will provide you with the opportunity to explore the materials, methods and processes that support art and design activities within the fashion and textiles sector. This course is designed to develop the knowledge, technical skills, and understanding you will need in order to progress to further study and qualifications, or prepare you for a rewarding career in a number of creative fashion-based roles.

You will develop practical skills and knowledge in fashion and textiles through lessons taught in specialist studios. From initial ideas and concepts, you will learn how to pattern cut, create your own textiles and construct garments. You will have the chance to see your fashion collections come to life during public fashion shows and a final exhibition.

This is a two year study programme which is equivalent to 3 A Levels, however a one year option is also available which is equivalent to 1.5 A Levels. Both programme years will accrue UCAS points should your chosen progression route be a UK university.

The Textiles Fashion course will encourage you to develop a creative and experimental approach to contemporary fashion design and garment making. Students studying Textiles will have the opportunity to work with a variety of textile materials and techniques. Problem solving will encourage independent learning and creativity, with relevant images, artefacts and resources being integral to the process. The students will have the opportunity to study a range of areas including the history of textile design, contemporary design, costume design and domestic textiles including wallpaper.

This course is based on textiles and fashion as an art form. Enthusiasm, creativity, originality and self-discipline are all important attributes required. Commitment outside of lessons is crucial to success. You will be set regular independent work which will take the form of practical work, research and written work on artists, designers and craftspeople. This course will enable you to produce an incredibly varied and experimental portfolio of work based on a range of chosen starting points.
