Introduction

Almeria, the leading European region in terms of fruits and vegetable production and exportation, is emerging as a prominent innovation hub for greenhouse technology and production. In the field of plant breeding, Almería concentrates a significant portion of the total horticulture seed business activity among the world. Indeed, the most notable Spanish and international companies are based in Almeria, producing novel horticultural varieties through intensive research and development programs. These novel varieties ”made in Almeria” are not only used in this Spanish region but also exported and cultivated in many different greenhouses all over the world. The area of Genetics at the University of Almería is in close collaboration with the seed companies and the productive system of Almería. More precisely, the HORTICULTURAL GENETICS research group accumulates more than 25 years of experience focusing on research and teaching activities in the field of plant biotechnology and breeding. The goal of the present course is to share our theoretical and practical knowledge regarding the biotechnology methods and tools widely used in horticultural crops breeding and production. To do so, our multidisciplinary group encompass the fields of genetics, plant physiology, plant production and food technology allowing us to perform high-throughput plant phenotyping for abiotic and biotic stress tolerance, nutrients, drought and salinity tolerance, and postharvest fruit quality. The phenomics studies are followed by molecular studies through high-throughput genotyping using next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and bioinformatics analysis in order to identify plant materials, molecular markers and genes useful for developing novel cultivars... Introduction

The potential of applications of microalgae to improve the quality of life of people is very high in 1) energy, 2) water treatment, 3) welfare and health promotion and 4) and food. The products are so varied that they range from active biomolecules with therapeutic capacity for the development of new medicines, food and functional ingredients, products for the dermocosmetic industry, aquaculture, animal feed, biofertilizers, biostimulants, to low value products such as chemical products. bulk, biofuels. Microalgae are also being used in the treatment of wastewater, and lip-absorption of greenhouse gases. However, the global productive capacity of microalgae barely reaches 20,000 tons / year, and its availability in the markets is very low, with relatively high biomass production prices. The above does not favor the development of new initiatives, which generally require little initial amount to do previous studies of research and economic, social and environmental sustainability. The perspectives in the mentioned markets (and especially in the production of chemical products in bulk and basic products) has triggered many institutional initiatives, from small, medium and large companies, to develop microalgae biotechnology throughout the world. All of them have in common the need to produce large amounts of biomass to reduce the current production cost and be competitive in those markets. The Marine Microalgae Biotechnology Group of UAL (BIO173) with experience in this field since 1987 offers its experience and facilities (see attached file word) to doctoral students, postdoctoral and postdoctoral researchers, as well as professionals from all over the world.... Introduction

The "Almería Model" is based on Family Farming, it is a case of success and sharing of the wealth that they see from many parts of the world. It is sustainable, has an efficient management of supplies and natural resources, has an incomparable health with a widespread use of biological control and a boost of organic farming. In this course we will analyze your technology and profitability. It is well documented that the greenhouses of Almeria have been for decades the true engine of socioeconomic and demographic development in the province of Almeria (Spain). The productions and the value of them reflect, campaign after campaign, being the central core of the provincial economy. In addition, the more than 31,000 hectares of wintering produce annually 3.2 million tons of fruit and vegetables, generating 1.8 million euros; with a marked exporting character (80%), contributing the largest share to the international agro-food trade of Andalusia (Spain). In recent years there is a continuous renewal of greenhouses, in which old structures are modified making them more resistant and spacious. This improvement is being accompanied by an incessant incorporation of technology, emphasizing by its importance the systems of climate control, fertigation, irrigation with desalinated seawater, soilless crops and grafts; aspects that we will tackle in the Study Abroad. The acquisition of heating equipment, cooling by evaporation of water or ventilation, pursue both the increase in yields and the quality of crops. Another objective is the extension of the period in which it is possible to... [-]

Introduction

The world is being digitized, and the influence of the digital environment in our daily actions is increasing. This impact is much greater in the business sector, since it is necessary both for electronic sales, as well as to inform companies and maintain a digital image aligned with the mission and business objectives. Within this environment, marketing 3.0 arises, which tries to "take care of the customer" to get the trust of the consumers. As established in this new marketing strategy, to achieve success, it is necessary to understand how consumers think (Kotler, 2018). This course arises from the need for students to acquire a first contact with digital advertising 3.0 and, also, to know the tools of this environment, improving their professional academic training and adjusting to social demands. Therefore, in the present course students will be offered a theoretical-practical perspective, with emphasis on the applied part. For this, this course will be taught by specialized teachers in the field and external professionals specialized in digital marketing. In addition, this course offers students the possibility of knowing a few brushstrokes of the interaction between different fields, such as sociology, psychology and digital marketing. In this sense, the Universidad de Almería , through the promotion of this course, will be able to approach students to the social reality, thus achieving a comprehensive and integrated professional training in society.... Introduction

Translation plays a fundamental role in the communication process between people of different languages. The growing globalization has led to an increase in the need for communication in recent years among people from all over the world whose languages do not coincide. In addition, the increase in social and commercial relations at the international level has made translation one of the professions with the most future prospects. In fact, most recent studies predict that this discipline will continue to increase its share of business in the next. Given this situation, it is essential to train qualified personnel capable of performing linguistic mediation functions in a professional manner. This course aims to complement the training of translation students, modern languages or any other discipline that have an interest in knowing the characteristics of professional translation in the different areas of specialty that are included in this profession. The Universidad de Almería offers, among its curricula, subjects dedicated to this discipline, for which it counts on professors specialized in literary translation, documentation and sworn translation, among others, being, some of its members, official Sworn Translators named by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. With the participation of this faculty, as well as experts and active professionals of recognized prestige at the national level, this course aims, from an eminently practical point of view, to provide participating students with the knowledge, skills, skills and tools needed for the performance of the professional level translation. Being a universal discipline whose particularities do not... [-]

Introduction

The demographic change foreseen for the coming years leads us to a markedly aged society in a short/medium term, especially in the most developed countries. A direct consequence of population aging is the decrease in the quality of life and health status of the population, highlighting the increase in the incidence of cases of dementia such as Alzheimer's disease. In the absence of definitive pharmacological solutions for the treatment of cognitive deterioration and dementia, a multidisciplinary approach is currently proposed as a preventive measure aiming to promote active and healthy aging. Likewise, evaluation, monitoring, and treatment of cognitive, emotional or social interaction problems in neurological pathologies associated with aging require the involvement of different disciplines, from neuropsychology to robotics, through nutrition, music, physiotherapy or information technologies, among others. ... Introduction

Latin America is home to some of the regions with the greatest solar potential worldwide, and many of them are already hotbeds of very active and relevant specific projects. These focuses are addressing both applications related to the generation of heat and electricity for isolated environments and other emerging applications such as the integration of solar thermal and photovoltaic plants in national and regional distribution networks, water treatment or industrial process feeding and productive. To this must be added the demonstrated involvement of institutions and governments in the fight against climate change as reflected by the adherence of practically all Latin American states to the agreements of the Paris COP21 Summit and the increasing adoption of initiatives of promotion and financing of this type of sources in their national legislations. It is therefore an unstoppable process and it may be of interest to offer future Latin American engineers and professionals the opportunity to take advantage of the experience in this field of research centers and Spanish universities. This interaction also has the advantage of its bidirectionality since this type of process is useful for Spanish centers to improve their skills through the requirements and experiences of the projects developed in Latin America.... Introduction

Among the new perspectives that must be considered in an ELE course is the growing interest in the presence of culture in the programs, according to the conviction that learning a language without reference to the community that speaks it is a difficult task and little enriching. The communicative approach, which currently seems to be the most effective in language learning, requires the insertion of the cultural since it is a didactic orientation that takes into account the idea that not only linguistic competence is important, but also also extra-linguistic competition. What we intend is to offer students a program where cultural content serves as a starting point or platform for the presentation of the linguistic system. Even more when the student ventures to learn a language in the target country, he is immersed in a process of personal enrichment in the deepest sense; is interested in the culture of the country and therefore we must provide all the means to understand it. It is a context of total immersion. In the classes within the classroom, from the beginning, essential socio-cultural contents are introduced to satisfy immediate needs in the society in which the students are immersed. These contents also act as conversation topics, in this way it is a forum for socio-cultural debate in a round trip that goes from language to culture and from culture to language. Classes outside the classroom, guided visits to representative elements of the province, both signs of the past and samples of the... [-]
